When Mother Earth Felt her wrath She punished not only those who hurt her; But innocents who had yet to live Innocents who had yet to learn Innocents… Children.

Dear Friends,
The 26th of May, 2006, was the day that biru peduli’s cause came into existence: a magnitude 6.3 earthquake rippled through Yogyakarta and surrounding areas, killing 6 000 and adversely affecting many more. Some of the 1.6 million homeless were helped by yourselves through biru peduli. You can all see, two years on, how our Adopt-a-Student program provides long term support for the continuation of children’s education.
Now we are once again asking for your help.
April 27 to May 3, 2008. Cyclone Nargis swept in from the Bay of Bengal, heading straight for Burma (Myanmar); it decimated large areas of coastal provinces, destroying all in its path and barely sparing the major city of Yangon (Rangoon). The death toll is reported to be between 80 000 and 100 000, and at least 56 000 missing. 2 to 3 million are homeless. State television in the town of Labutta, where the damage was horrifically high, reported that 75 percent of the houses in the area had collapsed, and 25 percent had their roofs blown off. The UN has stated that 1.5 million people have been affected by Nargis’ destructive wake.
Think about it.
56 000 missing. Between 80 000 and 100 000 dead. Houses crushed, collapsed, crumbling into wooden slats and muddied tiles. It would be impossible to even guess at the number of orphans and single-parent families Nargis has tragically created. A vast majority of these children are facing an uncertain future; with one or both parents taken by the water, school is not an option. They must work to support themselves, siblings, or extended family. They need our help.
Moved by the disaster so close to home, and so alike to the one that created it, biru peduli has decided to expand their Adopt-A-Student program to include Burma’s new victims of an unpredictable Mother Nature. Largely initiated by Burmese and Burma-based members of the community, namely Aung Kyaw Min, Tin Han, and Sybilla, and the cooperation of third-party orphanages in the affected country, we are appealing to the Friends of biru peduli to donate and to support the orphans of Burma.
We have made the impossible possible before; why can we not achieve it again? The Adopt-a-Student program has been keeping the hope alive for children orphaned by the Indonesian earthquake. Now it is time to light the candle of the children in Burma.
Your support for our programs so far has been tremendously generous, and much appreciated. Now we are once again “knocking on your door” for aid, resources, and kind hearts. Will we sit quietly, and stay impassively watching the news?
No, we won’t. We are very fortunate indeed. A little of our fortune would go a long way in allowing the children of Burma to build their future, on their own terms.
Let’s help them.
Let’s do it.
Thank you, friends.
Sincerely,
Aung Kyaw Min and Ahmad Yuniarto for biru peduli

Can't donate with IE |

Some of Biru Peduli friends noted that they had problem with the PayPal donation function when using Internet Explorer (IE). After clicking on the Donate Now button, it was reported that the user was directed to PayPal website. However the PayPal site was showing almost blank page, with one of the link showing "Click here to retry". The tab of the browser was indicating "Page Not Found". After switching to Firefox, everything seemed to be working just fine.
Our Biru Peduli site was tested with IE, Firefox, and Opera regularly, and they are supposed to be working just fine. Setup in your individual computer may cause different browsing experience such as above.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the webmaster. |

Activity Update (14-Mar-2008) |

|
Our activity in the adopted village is still going strong. Mainly we are continuing with Adopt-a-Student program, where we provide support to students from the village to continue their study. Our support is in provision of tuition fees, book fees, and living allowances - which is very important, to makes sure that the student will not be taken off class to work in farm or field. ADOPT-A-STUDENT
We have run Adopt-a-Student for full 1.5 years. New academic year is approaching, and we have new students to enroll and to support, including more High School students.
We need to raise Rupiah 143.350.000 (approx 15,752 USD) to support 99 students (35 High School and 64 Junior High School). And we need to raise another 10,000 USD to start our latest activity "Teacher Development Program", where Biru Peduli will organize workshop and mentoring to introduce creative teaching and learning methodology. We have a balance of Rupiah 32.955.469 (approx 3,621 USD). So, we need your further support to continue our programs.
It seems a daunting task to raise that much money. However, we have done the impossible before with your support. I am confident that with your encouragement and support, we can do it again. It does not take much to support a student. 300 USD will keep a student in school for 1 full academic year.
Don't let the student drops out from school. Let's help them building better future for themselves. OTHER PROGRAM
Almost 2 years since the earthquake, there are still about 500 families around our adopted villages who need support for the housing. We can not do much at the moment, since our limited budget won't allow us to support that. We are focusing on education of the children at the moment.
Your supports have gone a long way. You have put hope back in their life. And that means a lot. You have raised their spirit to rebuild their life.
We are very fortunate with our life. There are still a lot of people out there who will benefit from our support. Canceling a dinner outing or two, Canceling a golf game or two, Will not change our life, But the money saved will change their life
Let's help others.
Let's do it! |
