When Mother Earth -- Felt her wrath -- She punished not only those who hurt her -- But innocents who had yet to live -- Innocents who had yet to learn -- Innocents… -- Children.

Visit to adopted village in June-2007 Print E-mail
Friday, 10 August 2007
Ahmad Yuniaro visited our adopted village last June. It is very heartwarming to see village life nearly back to normal. Wherever you went, you saw new houses! Plants, flower pots, small warung (kiosk), all added the flavor to the new life they're building.

Government's support in housing reconstruction has been effected (in the last 3 months!), eventually. Each family received 15 million rupiah (approx USD 1,650.00) to rebuild the house. Majority did not receive the full amount: cut here and there for administration fees, etc. That amount was not enough to build a house. Most one could build was walls and roof. No plaster, doors, windows, flooring, etc. In the end Biru Peduli helped with the flooring, to improve the hygiene of the house.

However, the most surprising sight was that almost all Biru Peduli's Transition Houses were in good condition and in use! They're part of the new house. Several villagers whom I talked to confided to me that they were still traumatized by the quake and the crumbling houses which followed. Consequently, they preferred to sleep in Transition House. In addition, they wanted to keep Biru Peduli's Transition House as mementoes.
